Did you know the number one Savannah Attraction on TripAdvisor.com is the Historic District? That’s right, the neighborhood where our Bed and Breakfast resides is also the number one place to check out on a visit to Savannah.
Beat the heat this summer during your tour of the neighborhood by taking an old-fashioned carriage ride. We offer a special for this unique and fun experience: Tour the Historic District of Savannah with a well-informed driver that will narrate the ride for you, pointing out historical points of interest and giving you the back story on well known Savannah landmarks.
The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and will pick you up right here at the inn. The cost is $115 per couple.
If you are looking a perfect proposal idea, add champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries to your ride in an extra-long white carriage. This romantic ride could be the beginning of a new life together! Upgraded carriage ride is $175 per couple.
Savannah Historic District Points of Interest
These are some of the places you will visit and learn about on your carriage ride:
- Forsyth Park. The park’s north end is home to a cast iron fountain that was erected in 1858. The Forsyth Park Fountain was designed to resemble the grand fountain in Paris at the Place de la Concorde.
- Mickve Israel Temple. Learn about the Jewish community and history in Savannah. The temple is a beautiful example of 19th century architecture.
- Andrew Low House. The beautifully restored home of one of Savannah’s most infamous residents.
- And many more!
Romantic Savannah Lodging
We like to think that McMillan Inn accomplishes a perfect balance of Victorian Romance with modern conveniences. Enjoy wide verandas and porches, the dipping pool for cooling off in the back courtyard, and in-room luxuries like Jacuzzi tubs and flat screen TVs.

Join famed celebrity chef Paula Deen with her two sons, Jamie and Bobby, for a book signing at Uncle Bubba’s Seafood & Oyster House (104 Bryan Wood Rd.) on Monday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. Only 350 tickets will be given out starting one hour before the book signing. You will be able to take a picture with this famous Southern family, but no cameras are permitted; a professional photographer will be on site to take your photo.
If you are a Paula Deen fan, keep in mind she will be on the Jay Leno Show on Friday March 26.
Paula’s Story and Savannah Connection
As a young girl Paula grew up in Albany, Georgia. Paula married her high school sweetheart and became a mother, raising two adorable boys. Then, her parents died, her marriage failed and she began a prolonged battle with agoraphobia (a fear of leaving your home and going outside). With her boys in their teens and her family near homelessness, Paula took her last $200, reached deep inside her soul and started “The Bag Lady,” a home-based catering company that marked the start of Deen’s professional cooking. With sons Jamie and Bobby delivering “lunch-and-love-in-a-bag,” beginning in June 1989, Paula turned around her life by sharing what she knew best, traditional Southern cooking.
Deen’s first business, The Bag Lady, brought out Paula’s strengths and stabilized her family. She moved her catering company to a small restaurant at a Best Western motel in Savannah and finally opened her first restaurant, The Lady and Sons, with Bobby and Jamie five years later. The restaurant was a hit! That popularity encouraged Paula to write her first cookbook, 1998’s The Lady and Sons Savannah Country Cookbook. This gave her fans the opportunity to try Paula’s recipes at home, and led to her first television appearance on QVC. Paula’s genuine warmth and folksy personality made her a natural for television. In 1999, USA Today food critic Jerry Shriver named The Lady and Sons “International Meal of the Year.”
The rest is history! If you are coming into Savannah for the book signing, or for any occasion, the McMillan Inn bed and breakfast in the Historic District of Savannah would love to be the place you call home during your visit!

McMillan Inn was proud to host six runners in this year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. Our guests participated in the half-marathon, and the full marathon!
Each race participant received a special goodie bag upon arrival, and a light breakfast of bagels, fruit, and quiche the morning of the race. Some of the runners enjoyed pasta the night before the race at Leocis italian restaurant one block from McMillan Inn. The race began at Bay Street only 8/10ths of a mile away from the Inn, a great warm up route however the Owner, Joe shuttled the guests up to the starting point saving them that one extra mile! The race ended at Forsyth Park, just two blocks away from the McMillan Inn, which also hosted live bands all day. Our runners arrived back at the Inn exhausted but happy with their performance, and we had celebratory peach tea, butter cakes, and cookies waiting upon their return.
A jovial atmosphere surrounded our breakfast table the following morning as guests enjoyed our legendary full hot gourmet breakfast and recounted the details of the race. We are very inspired by their dedication and hope to see them again next year!
If you or someone you know is participating in the 2013 Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and would like to stay with us, please remember to book early at McMillan Inn as rooms fill up quickly!
