The 13th Annual Gingerbread Village Competition DisplayOnce a year, there’s a section of Savannah where the houses, businesses, the streets and fences, even the people and animals are not all just edible but sweetly so – and some are even frosted!

No, I’ve not gone right out of my tiny, little mind: I’m talking about the annual Gingerbread Village Competition, a free event sponsored by the Savannah Harbor Foundation!

Each year, professional chefs, hobbyists, and even school children put their best efforts towards constructing deliciously fanciful displays of gingerbread and candy. The competition is judged in two divisions (adult and student), and is open for anyone to participate.

This year’s judging took place on Nov. 18th. Adult entrants competed for up to $1,500 in cash awards, students for up to $500, with four winners in each category.

After the judging, their culinary creations are collected and assembled into a whimsical and expansive, holiday village of light and color. This incredible display of crunchy creativity was opened to the general public on Nov. 23rd and will remain open for viewing until the 30th of December, 2013.

Thousands of visitors from all over come to oggle this amazing, edible village (but please, don’t *actually* eat any of it). It’s a truly stunning, holiday sight that will fascinate and delight both young and old. Best of all, you get to cast your vote for the People’s Choice Awards!

Don’t miss it!
