SCAD Savannah Film Festival 2024 is just around the corner, scheduled for October 26th to November 2nd. Hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), the event is one of the country’s largest university-run film festivals.
The festival features over 150 films, ranging from major Hollywood releases to independent films, documentaries, shorts, and student projects. Filmmakers from around the world gather to showcase their work and connect with audiences. The festival is an excellent opportunity for filmmakers to gain exposure and share their stories.
Though festival organizers have yet to announce the 2024 lineup, it’s bound to be as good if not better than previous festivals. Last year’s event screened 26 Oscar-nominated films, including 9 Best Picture nominees. Guests and honorees for 2023 included Kevin Bacon, Ava DuVernay, Emerald Fennell, Cord Jefferson, Greta Lee, Sarah Greenwood, Todd Haynes, Eva Longoria and more.
One of the highlights of the SCAD Savannah Film Festival is its award presentations. Each year, the festival honors filmmakers, actors, and contributors to the industry with awards like the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Rising Star Award. Past honorees have included stars like Hugh Jackman and Amandla Stenberg. The awards celebrate both accomplished talent and up-and-coming artists.
Beyond the film screenings, the festival offers workshops, panel discussions, and Q&A sessions. Attendees will have the chance to hear directly from filmmakers, directors, and actors about their creative processes. These events provide great insights for anyone interested in filmmaking. SCAD students benefit especially, gaining hands-on learning and networking opportunities.
